RESUMO: A glândula hipófise está situada na base do cérebro, e é responsável pela síntese de diversos hormônios no corpo humano. Quando ocorre um crescimento celular anormal nessa glândula dá-se o nome de tumor hipofisário. Tumores hipofisários são tumores benignos da glândula hipófise que provocam sintomas neurológicos e hormonais. Os sintomas neurológicos são decorrentes de compressão ou invasão de estruturas adjacentes, tais como o nervo ótico e nervos localizados ao lado da hipófise. Esses tumores são classificados em funcionantes e não-funcionantes, essa classificação dependerá de diversão características funcionais e estruturais. Embora seja um tumor benigno, é necessário tratamentos que visam remover o tumor. O tratamento pode ser tanto cirúrgico como clínico, o que vai definir a forma de tratamento é a classificação do tumor.

ABSTRACT: The pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain and is responsible for the synthesis of various hormones in the body. When an abnormal cell growth in this gland gives the name of pituitary tumor. Pituitary tumors are benign tumors of the pituitary gland that cause neurological symptoms and hormonal. Neurological symptoms are due to compression or invasion of adjacent structures such as the optic nerve and nerves located next to the pituitary. These tumors are classified as functioning and nonfunctioning, this classification depends fun functional and structural characteristics. Although it is a benign tumor, it is necessary treatments aimed at removing the tumor. The treatment can be both surgical and medical, which will define the form of treatment is tumor classification.
