Abstract: Apocynaceae is one of the largest and most diversified angiosperm families, widespread in the tropics and subtropics with a few genera occurring in temperate zones. It comprises about 400 genera and 3.700 species, of which 80-95 genera and 750-850 species occur in Brazil. Several species of Apocynaceae have economic uses as ornamentals and as commercial sources for wood and drugs. The floristic treatment of the angiosperms from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul published by Dubbs was considered by us as a starting point to produce an updated checklist of Apocynaceae. Our work is mainly based on the examination of the vouchers deposited at the CGMS herbarium, which hosts the most representative collection of species of Apocynaceae from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. Additional collections deposited at the herbaria MBM, R, RB, SPF and UEC were also examined, and specimens of Apocynaceae collected in six field excursions in different localities of the Mato Grosso do Sul state were incorporated in the checklist. In addition, complementary data were obtained by searching the database from other Brazilian and foreign herbaria available at the speciesLink website. The obtained species list was then compared to the list of species of Apocynaceae available at the “Lista de Espécies da Flora do Brasil” website. Our results represent an important contribution to the knowledge of the diversity of Apocynaceae
