A Visão da “Guerra Total” no Pensamento Militar

Resumo Este texto procura ser uma aproximação a uma teoria da Guerra Total. Distingue o conceito de guerra do conceito de Guerra Total e explicita a origem e a genealogia do termo. A Guerra Total diferenciar-se-ia da guerra pela integração/fusão da política e da estratégia, pela desmesura do objectivo, virtualmente inatingível e pela mobilização completa e global de cada sociedade envolvida. A Guerra Total apenas se consegue consubstanciar no extermínio do adversário, na sua abolição. Neste sentido, defende o texto, a Guerra Total é o cume absoluto da guerra, no seu sentido mais puro e duro. O artigo faz ainda uma análise sintética da leitura que cada uma das grandes potências efectuou da Guerra Total. As percepções distintas de cada potência, reflectiram a forma como cada uma travou a II Guerra Mundial e enfrentou, no caso dos potentados vencedores, a Guerra Fria. Na realidade, inicialmente, a experiência da Guerra Total, marcará a visão da guerra futura na Guerra Fria.

Abstract This text aims to be an approach to a theory of Total War. It distinguishes the concept of war from the concept of Total War and explains the origin and the genealogy of the term. The Total War would differ from war by the integration/fusion of politics and strategy, by the outstanding measure of the objective virtually unattainable, and by the mobilisation, complete and global, of each society involved. The Total War only manages to consubstantiate itself in the extermination of the adversary, of its abolition. In this sense, as stated in the text, Total War is the absolute edge of war, in its most pure and hard sense. The article also makes a synthetic analysis of the reading each of the great powers has made of Total War.
