RESUMO
Este trabalho trata do tema Letramento na Educação Infantil e suas contribuições para a aquisição da leitura e escrita. O objetivo é investigar em uma escola da Baixada Santista como se dá esse processo de letramento de crianças de 4 a 6 anos. Paraa realização da pesquisa, fez-se inicialmente uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o tema em artigos e livros, posteriormente um questionário foi aplicado a professoras da educação infantil de uma escola a fim de coletar informações sobre o letramento de crianças de 4 a 6 anos.Como fundamentos, são utilizadas as concepções de Magda Soares (1992), Teberosky(2003) e Kleiman (1995) sobre Letramento e Alfabetização. A pesquisa revela que as crianças expostas diariamente a situações que envolvem a leitura e escrita, por meio de textos, jogos e brincadeiras, ampliam grau de letramento: compreensão de textos, vocabulário e comunicação oral.

ABSTRACT:
This paper deals specifically with literacy in early childhood education and what can contribute to the acquisition of reading and writing skills. It aims at investigating how such process takes shape, focusing on children from 4 to 6 years old from a school in the Santos area. The data was gathered through a questionnaire about the building and acquisition of literacy answered by the teachers. The concepts of literacy that served as a theoretical support to the analysis of the material were taken from the works of Magda Soares (1992), Teberosky (2003) e Kleiman (1995). This research points to the conclusion that children who are daily exposed to situations that involve reading and writing activities, such as texts, games and other playful pastimes, end up by enhancing their level of literacy.
