In the past when sugar was scarce and expensive only the nobility consuming large amounts of sugar. With time sugar was gaining market and with new production techniques and new products derived from cane sugar became one of the main products of the Brazilian agribusiness. The Brazilian agricultural industry plays an important role in the national economy which in 2012 accounted for 22.4% of GDP, 33% of jobs and 37% of export according to the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, the only cane sugar cane, were generated £ 7.9 billion in 2007. With the vast expansion of this sector in Brazil especially after Proálcool the need for skilled labor has become a problem. To meet the demand for ethanol attempted to tecnificar the sugarcane cultivation and supply shortage of manpower due to the large expansion of farming in the twentieth century, in 1990 the expansion of mechanized harvesting of sugarcane has gained greater momentum because new technologies. Technological advancement was not only on the field, a study done in 1991 by GINAA (Instrumentation Group on National Sugar and Alcohol) already foresaw the evolution of industrial instrumentation technology in Brazil. The average production of agribusiness remained in 1996 and 2001, higher than the industry average in general. The objective of this study is to assess the evolution of demand of skilled manpower by the sugarcane sector in Ribeirão Preto, scaling the weight of occupations proper agricultural segment to be the most affected by the process of mechanization of cane harvesting, and that can be expected for the coming years.
