WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE - ROMEO AND JULIET

1. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE´S BIOGRAPHY

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon and, because he was baptised on 26 April 1564, it´s believed that he was born on 23 April, following the tradition of baptising children three days after the birth. He was the third child of John Shakeaspearae and Mary Arden, he had seven siblings, of which, the two older (Joan and Margaret) died in infancy.

Until around his fifteen years old, Sheakespeare could study in an excellent grammar school: the King´s New School, in Straford. But due to some financial problems hed had to leave it.

When he was eighteen he got married to Ana Hathaway, a twenty-year-old-lady, who was pregnant with his child. They had three children: Susanna and the twins Judith and Hamnet. The boy died when he was only eleven years old. After the birth of the twins, in 1585 and until the year of 1592, there are no records about Shakespeare´s life, and this period is known as "the lost years".

By 1592, there is evidence that William Shakespeare earned a living as an actor and a playwright in London. Actually, by the early 1590s, documents show that William Shakespeare was a managing partner in the Lord Chamberlain's Men, an acting company in London. After the crowning of King James I, in 1603, the company changed its name to the King's Men. The company was very popular, and records show that Shakespeare had works published and sold as popular literature.

He was talented and fast, by 1597, William Shakespeare had published 15 of the 37 plays attributed to him and in 1599, Shakespeare and his business partners built their own theater on the south bank of the Thames River, which they called the Globe. Besides an actor and playwright, he was also a businessman, In 1605, Shakespeare purchased leases of real estate near Stratford for 440 pounds, which doubled in value and earned him 60 pounds a year.
