Abstract. In Bioinformatics, several information systems are already trying to help capture data provenance, due to its relevance for the description of a scientific experiment. During a scientific experiment, new findings are registered as annotations with the support of these systems. However, in order to capture data provenance, these systems should register what led the scientists to these annotations. In this work we investigated three scenarios, out of several biological scenarios that use informational systems: metabolic pathways, SNPs and Genomics. In order to investigate the real need for data provenance and find out which systems and databases already provide it, we have selected some databases for each of those scenarios. A comparative study of such biological scenarios where created and showed us an overview about the provenance captured by such respective databases and that some data provenance captured shortage can leave relevants data that were generated or consumed by experiments to be lost. Durante um experimento científico, novas descobertas observadas são registradas na forma de anotações com o apoio de sistemas de
