ABSTRACT
The systems known as Enterprise Resource Planning have currently received a great attention from the companies in the Brazilian market. Such systems are an evolution of MRP (Material Requirement
Planning) and MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning), and have the objective of integrating all the processes of a company. They are didactically and commercially divided into modules. When these modules are integrated, they incorporate the processes.
An ERP implementation project may be conducted by several methodologies, which depend on the consulting company hired for this purpose. However, the methodologies present similar phases, which are briefly described in this work.

In relation to the benefits of an ERP implementation, they may be measurable or not. In this article they are called tangible and intangible benefits.
In order to achieve a successful ERP implementation, there are fundamental items. These items were obtained through the research of implementation projects in different companies. Some of these items are described in this work: the choice of the product, the scope definition, the implementation strategy, the team implementation, and the importance of training for the final users.
