Morphology / Identification
The Iberian lynx has a reddish-brown coat covered with black spots that can be anything from tiny dots to stripes. Like all species of the genus Lynx presents as the most distinctive features a small tail, brushes the tips of the ears and beards. The average weight of a male adult is about 12 kg while females weighing an average of about 9 kg .
Reproduction
Breeding season: January to July, with a peak between January and February.
Season of birth: March to April.
Gestation: approximately 2 months.
Litter Size: 2-3 pups.
Survival to independence: 1-2 young per female.
Age of Independence: 7 to 10 months.
Age at first reproduction: Females: first winter; Males: age two.
Longevity: Up to 16 years.
