Linen and fabrics supply is important to ensure the effectiveness of a hotel’s operation. Without linen and fabrics, a hotel cannot provide proper service that will lead to customer satisfaction. Investment in linen and fabrics involves hundred thousands of dollars. It is a Housekeeping Department’s responsibility to protect this investment. This responsibility involves proper selection of linen and using proper procedures for linen and fabrics handling.
How to select the best bed linens?
Before we learn about linen and fabrics, we should understand the difference between linen and fabrics. What is linen? According to the Longman dictionary there are two meanings of linen. Linen is normally known as cloth or thread made of flax. Flax is a plant of natural fiber (cellulose fiber). However, there is another meaning of linen that is widely used in hospitality context, which means household articles made of cloth. Some of linen that are being used in hospitality establishment are towel, bed sheet, bedspread, napkin, tablecloth and many more. Fabrics are material made usually by weaving or knitting fibers. HOW TO CHOOSE LINENS? In selecting bed linens, we must understand that every attribute of the products affects the quality and price. For example, bedding purchase must base on analyzing the product’s attributes and deciding how these will match with your establishment needs. There are several factors to consider: * Fiber content * Fabric quality * Thread count and yarn count * Type of weave * Fabric finish *
