Geographical location

England is located on the island of Great Britain, which lies off the coast of western Europe. Scotland is on northern island and Wales in the west.
Much of England is covered by hills. The Cambrian mountains are in the northeast. The Pennines, a chain of low mountains, cross the country from north to downtown. The beaches are accompanied by cliffs and coves. The climate is mild and makes the country has an unstable temperature and spends most of the year cloudy.
England is the largest of four parts that make up the country called the United Kingdom. The other parts are Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. London is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom. The area of England is 130,410 km2 and its population, 52,065,000 inhabitants (2010 estimate).

Population

The population of England is a mixture of different ethnic groups, mainly from Germany, Denmark and France. The first to inhabit the region were the Celts. Most of the British population is Christian. The Church of England, Anglican, which is Protestant, is the official religion of the country. There are also large groups of Catholics, Muslims, Hindus and Jews.
