The Case of Azerbaijan

RESUMO
Turquia, Irã e Rússia buscam influenciar a inserção internacional do Sul do Cáucaso. O artigo faz breve recapitulação do passado compartilhado por aqueles atores regionais com o Azerbaijão, o mais próspero país situado na parte meridional da cordilheira. Procura, também, avaliar cenários alternativos futuros caso prevalecesse cada uma das três potências vizinhas. Conclui com a afirmação de que a evolução mais favorável dependeria do resgate das identidades culturais e da recuperação de mecanismos institucionais que conviveram pacificamente, há séculos, naquela parte do mundo.

ABSTRACT
Turkey, Iran and Russia compete to influence the international insertion of the Southern Caucasus.
This article makes a brief recapitulation of the shared past History between those regional powers and
Azerbaijan, the most prosperous country in the Southern part of the Caucasus. Also evaluated in the article are possible alternative future scenarios, in case the influence of Turkey, Iran or Russia should prevail. In conclusion, the article highlights that the most favorable development in that region would rely on the revival of the cultural identities and institutional mechanisms that have peacefully converged together with each other, for centuries, in that part of the world.
