Aviônicos
What is it?
• Provides the aircraft with a means of transmitting distress signals when activated
COMPONENT LOCATION
ELT
ELT WITH NAV INTERFACE UNIT
• If on ELT transmits every 50 seconds for 520 msec: • A/C position • ELT S/N • ID code • Country code • 406 MHz transmitter shuts down after 24 hours. • 121.5 and 243.0 continue transmitting until battery is g y exhausted – typically 72 hours
GENERAL INFO
• 406 ELT more accurate than a 121.5/243.0 ELT • 1 – 2 km versus 15 – 20 km and even less (100 meters) if aircraft position used • Aircraft cannot monitor 406 MHz so blinking light on remote switch is indication of operation • Mi i Minimum power 200 mw on 121 5/243 0 and 121.5/243.0 d 5W on 406 MHz • WILL activate in a crash regardless of position of remote switch or ELT switch (G switch) • MUST have pins 12 and 13 jumpered for G switch to work
• If ELT activated accidentally you will need to reset it • Do so by moving the cockpit remote switch on side of console to “ON” then moving it back to ON “ARM” after approximately 1 second • You may also reset the ELT at the unit itself by positioning the switch on the ELT up to “ON”, then back • ELT is either in ACTIVE or STANDBY • To go ACTIVE must use either Panel Mounted Switch (side of console), Unit Mounted Switch (on ELT) or the G-switch
ELT ANTENNA

REMOTE ARM SWITCH
REMOTE SWITCH
• Switch is normally in ARM position • ON position will turn the ELT on • TEST/RESET carried out by moving the switch i d tb i th it h to ON and within 1 second back to ARM
ELT PROBLEMS
• Flashing LED reports problems in following p priority y • a) 1 flash indicates a G-switch loop open failure • b) 3 flashes indicates 406 028 MHz transmitter 406.028 problem - bad or unconnected coax, an antenna problem or low power output • c) 5 flashes indicates no navigation data present - lik l d t i t likely due to improper wiring, i ii improper programming, invalid navigation data • d)
