Assessment of quality of life in liver transplant patients in Santa Catarina, Brazil

ABSTRACT
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of patients undergoing liver transplantation in the state of Santa Catarina. Methods: it is a cohort study, retrospective descriptive exploratory qualitative and quantitative design, through access to records of patients who underwent liver transplantation between January 2007 and December 2008, totaling 164 subjects. Results: Of the 164 instruments to collect demographic data members and instrument for assessing quality of life, only 59 showed up in response, with 48 alive and 11 death records, leaving the remaining 105 as non-localized or not expressed in nature unknown. Identified that the participant sample had 77.08% male, mean age (SD) 54.17 (± 10.39), MELD score rating by 25 N = 45 (93.75%), 0.75 (1 ± 28), average waiting time 0.75 (± 0.75 (± 1.28). Cirrhosis presented himself as the main indication for transplantation with 47.92% (N = 23), followed by primary tumor 25% (N = 12) and hepatitis C with 14.58% (N = 7). The dimension of the SF 36 that scored more severe damage was physical with (37.50%) and the other with a favorable score improved quality of vida. Conclusion: We conclude that there was no compromising of the negative quality of life, when they pointed their coping mechanisms over the condition of post-transplant.
