George orwells
George Orwell wrote his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four during perhaps the tensest moments in world history: the Nazi Party ruled German and it caused a huge tension between German and the other countries. The writer was always connected to social problems, and this book is not an exception, the novel is attached to the consequences of a totalitarian regime in a society. This essay is a try to show off the connection between Nineteen Eighty-Four and the Nazi Government in German. To do this, it is briefly explained what the dystopian literature is with its major characteristics, after that it is shown an association of Nineteen Eighty-Four and Nazi totalitarian government especially in what concerns propaganda and control of information. In a basic level, dystopian is the opposite of utopia. While utopia in literature is the representation of a society that although it is quite similar to our own society, it has no social problems because the society is based in equality, harmony, political stability and economic prosperity; a dystopian literature is the representation of an imaginary society full of problems because of lacking equality and harmony. In dystopian literature controlling people is an important form of empowerment of the government as well as an intense criticism directed to social and political, especially political, weaknesses of our real society. More than this, dystopian literature is a critic to the way of thinking of utopian literature. Dystopian literature works usually use some basic characteristics in the ways govern controls people, such as propaganda, restriction of freedom thought and actions, citizens are directed to thought of a society as being a perfect utopian society, in other words, citizens believe there are no problems inside their society and harmony is present in every part of the society (DAMIÃO).
