ABSTRACT - Species of Monocalyptus subgenus are not well studied out of Australia.
The Intensive silviculture for Eucalypts long rotation wood production is a new field of interest in Brazil. At Anhembi Forest Research Station four E. phaeotricha seed lots were included in a provenance trial (CSIRO 10903/NC389, 10903, 9782 and 9782/CAF), established during 1982. The randomized complete blocks design with 3 replications and plots with 7 x 7 plants and spacing 3 x 3 m between plants was adopted. The main conclusions of the provenance test are: a) the seed lots CSIRO 9782 and 9782/CAF, from
Atherton Qld provenance, are the most potential genetic material and belongs to E. phaeotricha (White stringbark) group; b) the seed lots CSIRO 10903 and 10903/NC389 are not potential and belongs to E. globoidea/E. nigra group; c) E. phaeotricha is a high potential species for regions where other species from subgenus Symphyomylthus do not have good site adaptation, mainly in tropical climate conditions.
