ABSTRACT
Objectives: To identify the occupational hazards of nursing professionals in hospitals, scoring the causes of accidents with sharps and biological processes among nurses in the hospital environment, and describe preventative measures to be adopted by nurses working in order to reduce such accidents at that profession. Method: Exploratory study, qualitative, through a systematic review of literature bases Virtual Health Library (VHL), Latin American and Caribbean
Center on Health Sciences (LILACS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Results: It was identified as the occupational hazards recapping / handle needles or intravenous catheters and the disposal site, physical, chemical, biological, and specific hazards of work activity. Conclusion: Preventive measures should be taken based on the risks and causes of accidents, taking continuing education an important role in this process. Descriptors: Biological
