ABSTRACT: Lessons given by a teacher trainee from the Arts Course/Spanish Language and Literature are analyzed. Since music activity triggered investigation of applied teaching methods in pedagogical practice, a case study in which five lessons centered on music activities were described. Whereas three lessons were undertaken at the Modern Foreign Languages Center (CELEM) of the Duque de Caxias High School, the two others were given at the Cidade da Criança Institution, both in Irati PR Brazil. Research focused on the practice, method and point of view of each lesson under discussion. According to theories by Richards and
Rodgers (1998) on Teaching Methods and from a pedagogical and research stance, it may be stated that the activities in the classroom were not adequate to the method which the teacher trainee believed to have applied. It was expected that when the trainee employed music activities, focus would be on Communicative Teaching.
Results, brought forth by debates and discussions, showed that the lessons used several methods including traditional ones.
KEYWORDS: methods; research; discussions; Spanish.
