Keywords: Nanostructured systems, Streptococcus mutans, Candida albicans, chlorhexidine. 1. Introduction Nanotechnology is the field of pharmaceutical sciences that is very studied in nowdays. Nanostructured systems have dimensions between 10 and 1000 nm and differ according to the qualitative composition and organization at the molecular level. These systems have been investigated and applied to verify the possibility of being used as carriers of drugs. The chlorhexidine (CHX), Nystatin and TiF4, can be used in these types of systems as bacterial plaque control. The increased incidence of caries can be determined by Streptococcus mutans. The incidence of Candida albicans in the oral cavity occurs due to factors such as: decrease of host immunity and mucosa lesions. 2. Methods Inclusion complexes of CHX and TiF4 with cyclodextrins (CD) were prepared by solubilization-freeze-drying and kneading methods in different molar ratios using b-CD for both chemical agents, methyl-b-CD (M-b-CD) and Hydroxypropyl-β-CD (HP- β -CD) for CHX. Sodium montmorillonite (MMTNa)nanosystems were prepared by solution method using different proportions (100%, 80% and 60% of total MMTNa cation exchange capacity–CEC).CEC value considered was 100 meqv of cation /100 g of MMTNa. Intercalation reactions were performed using CHX, TiF4 and nystatin (NYS) for different time with magnetic stirring at room temperature. Nanosystems were characterized by X ray powder diffraction (XRPD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Bacteriostatic activity were evaluated by inhibition halo test using Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans strains. 3. Results Cyclodextrin complexes have as formation evidence a crystalinity reduction phenomenon presented in XRPD patterns when compared with pure substances and physical mixture. This pattern was
