Reflecting on being a volunteer requires an understanding of the role of "I" and "we" in society. In other words, it requires questioning: what is our role in society? Then, this is the question that the project “A Roof for My Country” is supposed to answer. For this project, the responsibility is to provide emergency houses in communities of need. Although, the goal for 2013 is to get more people engaged in the action and then be able to help more families. So, how can we involve as many people as possible? Easy answer, show to them the project's accomplishments, develop new sub-projects that everyone can become a volunteer in, and provide a good education for the audience taught by the volunteers, so it will allow people from all walks of life to be part of the project.
“A Roof for My Country” is an organization engaged in the construction of emergency houses. This project works in poor communities to overcome extreme poverty through training and joint action of its residents and young volunteers. Also, it promotes community development denouncing the situation in which they live, and it involves the inclusion of the most excluded communities in the society. The main point is to achieve a just society without poverty where all families count on a decent home, and the people have the opportunity to develop their skills and fully exercise their rights and quality of life. What defines whether a family is eligible for the program is to be a large group that lives on illegal land and lacks basic services such as water, electricity, and sewage.
Undoubtedly, the success of the project is a result of all volunteers, company employees, media, and families involved in the action. According to the official website, since the project was launched over 78 thousand families have benefited and more than 400 thousand volunteers have been mobilized.
