Abstract
This paper is inserted into a search on shipping, its environmental impacts, the current regulations and technologies in the market to prevent pollution. The shipping industry is one of the pillars of world trade, carrying more than 8.02 billion tons, with annual growth of 5%, this thriving industry generates a significant amount of pollutants, among them are: ballast water, oily water including discharges to sea from tank cleaning, waste, sewage, gray water, solid waste or garbage and atmospheric emissions from the vessels.
The overview of the pollutants described in this paper shows that the ship like any industry worldwide is a contributor of various environmental impacts to the marine environment, either by accident or in daily routine operations.
To get shipping chord and more sustainable with the environment it has to do now is change in the technological or operational measures, also by a passing awareness programs and education for people at sea.

O presente artigo está inserido dentro de uma pesquisa sobre o transporte marítimo, seus impactos ambientais, a regulamentação atual e tecnologias existentes no mercado para poder prevenir a poluição. O transporte marítimo é uma das indústrias pilares do comercio mundial, transportando mais de 8,02 bilhões de toneladas e com um crescimento anual de
5%, esta indústria prospera gera uma importante quantidade de poluentes, entre eles estão: águas de lastro, águas oleosas incluindo as descargas ao mar de resíduos de limpeza de tanques, águas residuais, águas cinza, resíduos sólidos ou lixo e as emissões atmosféricas procedentes dos navios.
