Ab s tract The aim of this stu dy is to pre sent, as opera tional stra tegies, the co n tribu i tion to el a b ora te some preven tion measu res to prote ct the professional motorcycl i s t s , popu l a rly known as “m otob oys”, against acci d en t s . The authors pre sent a cri tic to the human error co n ception that is hegemonic to the experts at wo rk security. The re su l t s come from an Ergonomics stu dy that started over an Union demand of the professional moto rc yclists in Minas Gera i s . The total come to 85 professional moto rci clists who were intervi ewed and observed. The procedures were: report the activity filmed in the city streets and avenues; selfconfrontation of the scenes and of the map rutes, and of some aspects obeserved in the two selected companies. Finally the authors discuss the limits of the se c u rity rules wi t h out co n s i d ering the knowledge obtained by the workers themselves. The measures to change the situation that make the acci d ents happen were used to el a b o ra te the collective work co nvention.
