O objetivo principal deste artigo é discutir as diversas acepções de ‘território’, uma vez que ele pode ser uma chave para uma melhor compreensão da ciência geográfica, assim como, do nosso lugar no mundo. A partir daí, almeja-se pensá-lo como uma categoria de análise da Geografia. O trabalho é parte de uma discussão teórica que vimos realizando conjuntamente ao longo dos últimos meses. Nossa atenção em relação a essa categoria aumentou quando, na disciplina ‘Iniciação à
Pesquisa Geográfica’ – Curso de Geografia da UFU, sentimos o quanto os alunos careciam desse debate e, por outro lado, o quanto seu entendimento pode contribuir com o que chamamos de ‘Compreensão da própria Geografia’. O trabalho não se encerra na apresentação deste artigo. Ao contrário, ele é o início de um investimento para novas proposições no nosso fazer geográfico.

Abstract
This article aims to discuss on the several definitions of ‘territory’ while it can be a key to a better comprehension of the geographic science as well as our place in the world. We would like to think of it as a category of analysis of Geography. The work is part of a theoretical discussion we have done in the last months.
