Review of "alice’s adventures in wonderland"
Writing Task – Page 49, number 1
The famous English novel written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) in 1865 named “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” is a tale that plays with logic in such a way that not only did it draw the attention of children, but also adults. Due to its popularity, it did not take long for the story to come alive in performances and, eventually, also in numerous films. It tells the story of Alice – a girl on a cute dress –, who comes across a strange rabbit with a clock on her way, which leads her to a hole where a series of talking animals, plants and strange people interact with her. But, at the end, it turns out that all the fiction is nothing more than a sweet dream. Its first adaption was shot in a black and white silent movie, released in 1903 in England and was greatly accepted at the time especially because of the usage of some special effects such as Alice’s shrinking in the beginning of the film and her instant growth that got her stuck in the Rabbit’s house. This year – 2010 – the mentioned novel was, once again, interpreted in a high tech movie, originally shot in 2D, but since it had a suitable environment, it was also converted to 3D, giving the images a reality-like appearance. The latest movie’s plot was not completely based on the original book story, it was actually quite different. Alice being 19 years old – and not a kid anymore – is one of these differences. And, this time, Alice is returning to this land she had visited 13 years before and is given the responsibility of saving its inhabitants from the evil Red Queen. Despite all the bad critics – including the one about the 3D version –, I would rather say the movie was magnificent and all the roles were amazingly played by all the actors, especially by great names like Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska.
