Abstract— This paper describes the development and characterization of an absolute analog encoder, based on infrared light reflection, for the measurement of angular velocity, angular position and direction of rotation, with the use of only one infrared transmitter/receiver pair. Experimental results showing the kind of output provided by the absolute analog encoder here proposed are presented, as well as tests about how the output may be affected by variations of the environment lighting and variations on the distance between the reflexive surface of the disc and the infrared transmitter/receiver pair, that may occur if the disc is slightly bent.

Resumo— Nesse artigo ´ e apresentado o desenvolvimento e caracteriza¸c˜ ao de um encoder absoluto anal´ ogico baseado na reflex˜ ao da luz infravermelha para a medi¸c˜ ao de posi¸c˜ ao e velocidade angular e sentido de rota¸ca
˜o,
com a utiliza¸ca
