Abstract:
The flight activity of the natives bees Nannotrigona testaceicornis was observed using 3 colonies from Faculdade de Ciencias Agro Ambientais’ campus in Rio de Janeiro city during may to august and september to december in 2002. 384 obervations was carry out and each of them last 5 minutes. Informations were analyzed by the number of bees that went inside and went out in theirs hives by different hours a day that starting at 6:00 am and finishing at 6:00 pm.The frequency that the pollen was collected and the waste removed, as well as the time that the entrance was opened and closed were also observed.
It was verify that the bee’s flight activity higher increased between 11:00 am and
12:00 am from may to august and after 12:00 am from september to december in 2002. In the same periods studied the pollen was collected with a major frequency in the morning, however the waste was removed in the afternoon. The entrance was closed between 6:30 am to 7:00 am in the same periods, but it was opened between 5:30 pm to 6:00 p.m. from may to august and from september to december it happened after 6:00 pm when there was no more external flight activity in the hives.

Resumo:
A atividade de vôo das abelhas nativas Nannotrigona testaceicornis (abelha irai) foi observada utilizando-se 3 colônias provenientes do campus da Faculdade de Ciências Agro Ambientais , na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, durante o período de maio a agosto e setembro a dezembro de 2002. Foram realizadas 384 observações com a duração de 5 minutos cada. Os dados registrados foram analisados estatisticamente utilizando-se o número médio de abelhas que entravam e saíam de suas colméias a cada hora
