Abstract
Several existing systems in nature and society can not be understood by analyzing the behavior of individual components, but the analysis of the global behavior generated by the interactions of the individual components. Such systems are known as complex systems. The study of these systems has become recognized in recent years as a new scientific discipline. These are concepts ranging from psychology to the study of the exact sciences. Many of the systems around us are complex, such as ecosystems, economies, climate, nervous systems and the spread of disease in a population.
To understand complex systems, several mathematical tools are used. Among them is the cellular automaton (CA), which is used as an alternative for modeling systems. This mathematical tool is a discrete system, because their states vary in regularly spaced time instants. Are groups of cells (vectors / matrices). The value of each cell group in the next instant depends on the values of neighboring cells and a set of rules, known as transitions local rules.
