Abstract
Since 1994 Brazil has been received an update in your regulation for design of boilers and pressure vessels named Norma Regulamentadora- NR 13.
With the same purpose the designers and operators of furnaces should follow the Norma Regulamentadora NR-14.
These regulations requires that instruments of boilers, pressure vessels and furnaces should be kept calibrate and in good operational conditions.
It is know that since NFPA 85C 1991 Edition, NFPA requires that the Burner Management System should be independent of control system of boilers.
The purpose of the Burner Management System is to prevent misoperation of and damage to the boilers and its control equipment. Historically, these two systems were separated because the hardware was assembled from different products, often from different suppliers, and was usually implemented by different engineering groups. With technological advances in programmable control systems and their associated communication networks, designers now have the option to integrate in part or combine in full the Burner Management System and Boiler Controls System thus, gaining the functional benefits of a common hardware and software platforms and human factor benefits of a common operator workplace.
Recently several Safety Regulators in many countries had been required that designers and operators defined the Safety Integrity Level for Burner Management System as a good practice for safety operation.
This paper presents the requirements of Brazilian laws regards interlocks of boilers, furnaces and pressure vessels and shows how the
