Abstract
Sustainable Development is about making the economy grow, while protecting the environment, developing societies today, while thinking about the quality of life of the tomorrow’s societies. We can consider three interdependent components of sustainable development that go hand in hand – environmental, social and economic. The consequences of global growth are leading to serious environmental problems and sustainability is the vehicle to try to ease them. Portugal is a country with a huge potential in renewable sources of energy, but very dependent on other countries for non-renewable sources. Portugal Telecom is a Portuguese company with high concerns about sustainable development and knows how to make a sustainable activity and contribute for the world’s well-being.

Introduction
Sustainable development is a complex concept which importance has been growing quickly. It is a trivial matter nowadays, but do we really know what it means for the world and for us, and do we recognize its importance? Questions like Can we really pursue sustainable economic growth without harming our societies and the environment? and If we pursue prosperity today, are we condemning our children and grandchildren to poverty tomorrow? are issues people should have in mind, when talking about sustainable development. We live in an interdependent world and what happens in one country affect many others. National economies are affected by the globalization and the internationalization of production and international trade. Issues like pollution, climate change and resource management reach beyond geographic borders and make sustainability an urgent concern, a priority, shared by every countries, communities and societies all over the world.
