The school is concerned to teach and students do not learn to think. The arrival of Professor Keating moved to boarding with the structures of the institution based on the principles of tradition, honor, discipline, excellence.
He was a former student of Welton School, Keating said professed a revolutionary style in their classes in English literature and proposed relationship to his disciples.
In 1959, the very traditional Welton Academy, John Keating (Robin Williams), a former student becomes the new teacher of English literature. But the teaching method of Keating clashes with the conservative direction of the college. Keating encourages his students to think for yourself and awaken in young people a passion for poetry, art and everything that makes you think.
By scouring the yearbook teacher, students find that he exercised various extracurricular activities and participated in Dead Poets Society: A group of students gathered in a cave to read poetry and also of great works of his own. Encouraged, the students decide to resurrect the movement, even though the current direction of the college would not agree with that attitude.
The Dead Poets Society was formed by Neil, Knox, Charlie Pitts, Meeks, Todd and Cameron. The meetings in the cave to help the boys cope with their fears and go after their dreams. Encouraged by the group, Neil does an audition for the lead role in the play "Dreams of a Summer Night" by Shakespeare and wins the role. The problem is that Neil has no courage to tell his stern father who will act in a play. When the father discovers Neil, decides to take the boy from Welton and put him in a military school. The dreamer Neil can not handle the pressure and ends up committing suicide. Unfairly, Mr. Keating is accused of encouraging Neil to participate in the play and face his father. The direction of the college decides to dismiss Mr. Keating.
Mr Keating may have to say goodbye, but his teachings have profoundly
