O TEATRO JESUÍTICO NA EUROPA E NO BRASIL NO SÉCULO XVI *

RESUMO:
O teatro foi amplamente utilizado pelos padres da Companhia de Jesus como instrumento pedagógico. Tanto na Europa quanto no Brasil, os padres escreviam peças de teatro que auxiliavam não somente na instrução de seus alunos, mas também no ensinamento dos dogmas católicos. No chamado “Novo Mundo”, era a catequese dos autóctones que estava no horizonte dos padres jesuítas ao utilizarem o teatro como recurso didático. Este texto traz uma discussão a respeito da utilização do teatro nos colégios jesuíticos espalhados pela
Europa e também no Brasil no século XVI. O recorte temporal deve-se ao fato de que este foi o período que inaugurou o uso do teatro nas escolas jesuíticas na Europa e no Brasil.
Ênfase maior será dada às peças produzidas no Brasil-Colônia pelo padre José de Anchieta
(1534-1597), uma vez que as mesmas, juntamente com outros escritos desse jesuíta, inauguraram a literatura em terras brasileiras.

THE JESUIT THEATER IN THE EUROPE AND IN BRAZIL IN THE XVI
CENTURY
ABSTRACT:
The theater was used by the fathers of the Society of Jesus as a pedagogic instrument. In
Europe and Brazil, the fathers wrote plays which helped not only in the instruction of their students, but also in the teaching of the catholic dogmas. In the “new World” the autochthones catechism was on the horizon of the Jesuits fathers when used the theater as didactic resource. This text brings a discussion about the utilization of the theater at the
Jesuits High Schools through Europe and also in Brazil in the 16th century. The temporary option is justified because that was the period which inaugurated the use of the theater in the Jesuits schools in Europe and Brazil.
