Análise multitemporal do desmatamento no município de Theobroma, RO, através do uso de imagens do satélite LandSat 5/TM

Abstract. The forest cover of Rondônia has been reduced by an operation that seeks primarily the development of agriculture, exacerbating the problem of deforestation and the resulting fragmentation of large forest areas. Therefore this study aims to use multitemporal images acquired by Landsat 5 in the period 1991-2011, with the objective of quantifying the advance of deforestation in the municipality of Theobroma, using GIS techniques. . The analysis of the advance of deforestation in Theobroma, Rondônia, was based on the images of the years 1991, 2001 and 2011, which were processed using the SPRING program. Considering the period from 1991 to 2011, the municipality of Theobroma presented a total deforestation area equivalent to 1631,10 km². Between the years 1991-2001 deforestation in the city was intense with an increase of 37,78 % and an average of 79,91 km ² / year and in the years 2001 and 2011 deforestation in the city was not so intense, an increase of 7,06 %. Currently the city has 74,23 % of the deforested area, so it is important that initiatives to raise awareness and monitoring of illegal exploitation of forests that occur in the region. The use of satellite imagery for detection of deforested areas are an indispensable tool for combating and monitoring of forests and environmental preservation.
