O NEGRO NO PALCO: A BUSCA POR IDENTIDADE E VALORIZAÇÃO
CULTURAL NO BRASIL

ABSTRACT

This article is aimed to present the Black Theatre in Brazil as an element that hás potentially contributed for the confirmation and resistance of a Black (Afro) Culture in Brazil. The Black character trajectory is observed here trying this way to identify how it had taken place in the brazilian theatrical environment

and how they fought to conquer a space that has been

restrained to them, either in theatre or even in society. Analyzing some moments of the
Brazilian Theatre, we notice that this one wanted the Black character to be invisible in its environment. On this fight and cultural resistance scene we insert the TEN (Experimental
Black Theatre), which was born in Rio de Janeiro in the beginning of the 20th Century.

RESUMO
Nesse artigo busca-se apresentar o teatro negro como um elemento que potencialmente contribuiu para a confirmação e resistência de uma cultura negra (africana) no Brasil. A trajetória da personagem negra é observada buscando assim identificar como o negro se situou no ambiente teatral brasileiro e lutou por conquistar um espaço que lhe era restrito, quer seja no teatro, ou mesmo na própria sociedade. Analisando alguns momentos do teatro brasileiro, percebemos que ele buscava a invisibilidade da personagem negra em seu ambiente. Nessa perspectiva de luta e resistência cultural inserimos a trajetória do TEN
(Teatro Experimental do Negro), surgido no Rio de Janeiro no início do século XX.
