Risks of contamination related to the overpopulation of Columba livia (PIGEONS) in dock work

ABSTRACT|Objective: To assess the risks of contamination related to the overpopulation of Columba livia (PIGEONS) in dock work (TPAs) in the Port of Vitória; describe the process of activities of the dock work and relate with the risk of contamination by pigeon population. Methodology: an exploratory study, qualitative in nature, in which interviews were conducted with four managers from the ES Dock Company, a representative of the Port Workers Union and a representative of the Governing Body of manpower (OGMO) and also observations of the activities carried out by dockers loose and protective measures. We used the thematic analysis for data processing. Results:
Evidence of the existence of contamination risk to avulse dock workers single issues regarding overcrowding of Columba livia (pigeon), work overload due to productivity, absence and not in relation to the proper use of personal protective equipment.
Conclusion: There is an overpopulation of Columba livia (pigeon) that inhabit the Victoria Harbour. The lack of health surveillance and pest control policy contributes to the increased risk of contamination to workers and the environment.
