About the work
The picture was painted in a Workers' moment Tarsila was linked politically to communism. In the early 30 Tarsila was in the Soviet Union and participated in meetings of the Brazilian Communist Party. At this time, the policy and theme of the work were present on the screen. Tarsila do Amaral was born in the September 1, 1886 in Hacienda San Bernardo, Capivari municipality, the State of Sao Paulo. Daughter of Joseph and Lydia Stanislaus do Amaral do Amaral Dias de Aguiar. Stanislaus was the granddaughter of Joseph Amaral; nicknamed "the millionaire" because of the immense wealth he accumulated opening farms in São Paulo. His father inherited considerable wealth and several farms in which Tarsila spent his childhood and adolescence. In 1933 he paints the picture "Workers" and begins to paint social in Brazil. The following year I participated in the Salon of Fine Arts. Lives with the writer Luis Martins for nearly twenty years in the mid-30s to mid-50s. From 1936 to 1952, working as a columnist in the Daily Associates. In 50 years back on "Brazil wood." Participates in the 1951 Biennial of Sao Paulo. In 1963 has a special room at VII Bienal de São Paulo and the following year cameo in the XXXII Venice Biennale. He died in Sao Paulo on January 17, 1973.
