RESUMO
Busca-se examinar a ideia de coerência como conceito central no bojo da teoria da argumentação jurídica de Neil MacCormick. Expõem-se os pressupostos que norteiam a teoria do autor. Para melhor esclarecer os contornos da proposta, relaciona-se o autor com outros teóricos do direito que trataram do tema da coerência e da argumentação jurídica. Reafi rma-se a importância da ideia de coerência do direito como relevante critério para avaliar a qualidade das decisões judiciais.

ABSTRACT
The aim of this work is to examine the idea of coherence as a core concept in Neil MacCormick’s theory of legal argumentation. The presumptions that guide the author’s theory are exposed. In order to better clarify the proposal, the author is related to other legal thinkers who have discussed the theme of coherence and legal argumentation. The importance of the idea of coherence of law is reiterated as a relevant criterion for assessing the quality of legal decisions.
