ABSTRACT
The blood typing in cats is important to avoid transfusion reactions and neonatal isoerythrolysis. It’s essential to ensure the compatibility between donor and receptor before any blood transfusion in cats to avoid transfusion reactions. The recommended methods are cross-matching and blood typing. The cats present one blood group with three blood types A, B e AB. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of blood types in 148 domestic cats randomly selected of Veterinary Clinical Hospital of UFRGS. Blood samples were sent to the LACVet – UFRGS and the blood typing was performed by hemagglutination tube test. In the present study the prevalence of blood type A cats was 94,60%, 4,73% of blood type B and 0,67% of blood type AB.

A tipagem sangüínea é importante na área de hemoterapia em qualquer espécie animal para evitar possíveis reações transfusionais, mas em felinos, é também importante para evitar a isoeritrólise neonatal.
