Abstract
The most basic understanding of phenomena that occur during and after interaction of radiation with matter is well founded. The ionizing radiation already serves the society with several applications, like in sectors of civil construction, medical examinations, techniques for materials characterization, food preservation and degradation of waste. It is known that matter undergoes several chemical-structural changes when it interacts with γ radiation, however very little is explored about the use of ionizing radiation with the purpose to discover new alternatives synthetic pathways. Tannins are phenolic compounds produced by secondary metabolism of plants, and present several valuable pharmacological properties, among them, the radioprotective effect. The knowledge of the phenomena resulting from interaction of γ radiation with matter becomes fundamental, although many
