Frank C. Mars moves to larger quarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where again he starts in the basket candies business. Called the 'Nougat House', the candy produced during this period is named 'Patricia Chocolates' after Frank and Ethel V's daughter. • [pic]

Frank introduces the MAR-O-BAR to his candy range. With rented factory space, Frank begins a campaign for larger distribution. Now known as the MAR-O-BAR Company, Minneapolis, the company is doing business of less than $100,000 per year. Unfortunately, the MAR-O-BAR proves too delicate to stand up well under transportation. • [pic]

In September 1923, after three years of research, the MILKY WAY® candy bar is introduced and is an instant success. The first advertising is 'A Chocolate Malted Milk in a Candy Bar.' And with the resulting success of MILKY WAY® candy bar, sales increase to $793,000 and a full-time sales staff is hired. • [pic]

Mars, Incorporated, with approximately 200 workers, relocates from Minneapolis to Chicago, Illinois and starts full production in a plant which still exists today. Chicago offers a more central location with railroad access to other parts of the country. With good distribution for the candy bars, these are the best years for Frank. Forrest E. Mars, Sr., the only son of Frank C. Mars enters the family business. • [pic]
