Conservatória

Location:
Conservatória is the sixth district of Valença, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Formely called Santo Antonio do Rio Bonito, is located in a valley of Serra do Rio Bonito, with an approximate area of 320 km ². It shares borders with the state of Minas Gerais, with the districts of Santa Isabel do Rio Preto, Parapeúna, Pentagna, Valença and Barra do Pirai.

Directions: Starting from Rio de Janeiro, followed by Dutra Avenue until km 236, in Pirai. There, take the North, to the road to Barra do Pirai. It is approximately 14km to the BR 393. There, you will take the road to Conservatória which will travel for another 26km.

History:
With Catholic colonization, the village earns initially the name of Santo Antonio do Rio Bonito, in honor of the patron of the city and the river that runs through the region. But the tradition of the first inhabitants of the region, Brazilian Indians, was stronger, and the name Conservatória was marked forever. The prosperity and wealth came with the expansion of coffee production.
Conservatória grew and prospered during the coffee cycle of the Brazilian economy in the last century. The city, now a district of Valença, was an important link in the production and circulation of the product, housing more than one hundred farms that planted coffee and drained to the Royalty in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where was the harbor and from there to some other cities.
The end of the coffee cycle resulted in the decline of agriculture in the region, and many farms were abandoned. Some are preserved, including keeping a small coffee production, others changed their productive activity, and develop dairy farming today.
