Volkswagen Gol or Gol, is an automobile produced by Volkswagen, the car was designed in Brazil and currently trades in several countries.
Launched in 1980, is considered one of the most successful Volkswagen in Brazil of all time. It is also the first and only Brazilian car to surpass the mark of 5 million units produced to date, becoming, in February 2009, the first and only overcome the Volkswagen Beetle in sales.
Pioneer to become entry-level model of the Volkswagen brand in international markets, and is the most exported model in Brazil's history, with more than 1 million units sold to over 50 countries

History
The VW Gol arose from the need to create a successor to the Beetle after the second half of the 1970. His project began in 1976 and its development demanded nothing less than 1 million miles of testing on streets and roads.
The name Gol came from the tendency that Volkswagen had to give names to vehicles associated with sports (Polo, Golf, Derby). So, this vehicle adopted a name based on the Brazilian passion for soccer.

1980 - Generation I - Air cooling
Their first generation came to market in 1980 equipped with a 1.3 liters engine air cooled. With front-wheel drive, its modern and aerodynamic lines were inspired in the Passat, one of the most modern cars and admired at the time.
