RESUMO: O atendimento a pacientes com transtorno mental na emergência geral requer conhecimento específico dos enfermeiros diante disso está pesquisa aborda a assistência do enfermeiro na emergência geral ao paciente com transtorno mental, e tem como questionamento: O enfermeiro na emergência geral tem o conhecimento adequado para atender o portador de transtorno mental? O estudo teve como objetivo geral: Analisar se o enfermeiro possui o conhecimento adequado na emergência geral para atender o portador de transtorno mental. Esta pesquisa teve como base uma revisão de literatura, tratando-se de uma pesquisa exploratória descritiva, com abordagem qualitativa. O método científico adotado para a interpretação dos dados foi o Hipotéticodedutivo. Como principal resultado concluiu que existe falta de conhecimento dos enfermeiros na emergência geral durante o atendimento ao paciente psiquiátrico. E a presente pesquisa aponta que a mudança de paradigma que necessita a profissão passa por uma requalificação profissional.
