ABSTRACT
Although there is a lack of concrete data about this sector, social economical importance of small scale agroindustries is considered important. These agroindustries are considered at a marginal position in Brazilian economy. However, they present certain features that turns them into important issues, as exporting capacity and employment generation.
The State has promoted some incentive programs for the establishment of agroindustrial enterprises as an attempt to promote the agroindustrialization. Although the survival level of these enterprises is considered low, these programs seem to be an important alternative.
Economical sustainability analysis applied to this sector has faced barriers since there isn’t a wide spread information system. The data about the enterprises and its evaluation in the country are poor. So, this lack of information reduces their efficiency and consists in a barrier for growing and sustainability research.
In this contest, small scale agroindustry characterization and its rule in the agribusiness represent the first step in direction of sustainability research development.

RESUMO
Embora não se disponha de dados concretos sobre este setor, sabe-se que a importância sócio-econômica das agroindústrias de pequeno porte é bastante considerável.
