A Evolução dos Seres Vivos O filósofo da ciência, Thomas Kuhn, em seu livro "A estrutura das revoluções científicas", propõe duas situações diferentes através das quais a ciência progride: revolução científica e evolução. A revolução científica é determinada pelo aparecimento de um novo paradigma. É através de um paradigma científico que o pesquisador interpreta os dados já observados, bem como aqueles que ainda serão verificados. Um novo paradigma propicia novos caminhos para a interpretação dos fatos, permite novas análises e soluções de problemas, bem como determina o tipo de hipóteses a serem formuladas. Dois paradigmas principais e opostos foram propostos para que o ser humano entendesse a história natural das espécies de seres vivos, através dos tempos. O mais antigo deles foi o fixismo, que admitia a imutabilidade das espécies e vigorou até o século XIX. Foi em 1800 que se iniciou a revolução científica sobre esse assunto, com o surgimento de um novo paradigma, isto é, o evolucionismo. Foi nesta época que a primeira teoria da evolução foi formulada, por Jean Baptiste Lamarck. Meio século depois, em 1858, Charles Darwin e Alfred R. Wallace apresentaram seus trabalhos independentes a respeito da teoria da seleção natural. Era uma nova revolução que se fundamentou, mais profundamente, com a publicação do livro "Origem das espécies", de Darwin, em 1859.
