CHARTER
“The Federal Smart Grid Task Force”
Responsible Office and Official Designation
The U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability
(OE) is authorized by Section 1303 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007
(EISA) to establish a task force to coordinate Federal Smart Grid activities. The official designation will be the Federal Smart Grid Task Force.
Mission
The mission of the Task Force is described in Section 1303 of EISA, and can be summarized as follows: To insure awareness, coordination and integration of the diverse activities of the Office of
Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability and elsewhere in the Federal government related to Smart Grid technologies, practices, and services, including, but not limited to: o Smart grid research and development o Development of widely-accepted smart grid standards and protocols o Relationship of smart grid technologies and practices to electric utility regulation o Relationship of smart grid technologies and practices to infrastructure development, reliability, and security, and the, o Relationship of smart grid technologies and practices to other facets of electricity supply, demand, transmission, distribution, and policy
To collaborate with DOE’s Electricity Advisory Committee and other relevant Federal agencies and programs
Leadership
As outlined in Section 1303 of EISA, the OE Assistant Secretary, or their designee, shall be identified as the Director of the Federal Smart Grid Task Force. The Director will be responsible for organizing the activities of the Task Force, providing administrative and logistical support, scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas, establishing work plan objectives and tracking deliverables, and preparing periodic progress reports.
