Abstract
Flight Simulators have contributed to the aviation development since the first prototypes were built. Nowadays, they are very sophisticated hardware and software systems and their capabilities turned them into essential tools for aviation development. Specially dealing with pilot trainning and control systems, flight simulators may offer substantial contribution, supporting to develop new techniques and models to assist pilots during flights. This work describes the development of a flight Simulator considering its automation, data integration and instrumentation. It is proposed a distributed architecture based on personal computers for simulation processing. In this architecture, graphic modules, data acquisition systems and simulation models developed in Matlab/Simulink communicate each other using a Fast Ethernet network, composing the flight Simulator. During the development of this work, systems have been built to integrate Matlab/Simulink with other softwares and middlewares, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator X, FSUPIC, WideView and WideFS, which enable realistic image rendering. These images are based on airplane dynamic provided by Matlab/Simulink models. It is also described the development of a software responsible for distributed simulation control (control of the simulink models), which enables controling the whole simulation through a single interface.
