The book is about the comprehension of written texts and describes some aspects that compose reading, showing the cognitive processes that an individual pass during the act of reading highlighting moments of reflection, perception and contribution of mental elements in reading comprehension. These factors will contribute to the formation of an active reader. The main objective of the work would be to offer help to readers interested in training and improving the reading ability of the reader him/herself.
The work is divided into four chapters that work “O Conhecimento Prévio da Leitura”(previous knowledge in reading), which shows that the reader uses to read what he already knows, in other words, the readers promotes the activation of their own knowledge to effect a comprehension through inference by through an unconscious process of the reader, “Objetivos e Expectativas de Leitura”(reading goals and expectations), pointing to the need for a purpose for reading and that the same text can have different readings due to the different intentions of reading performed by different readers, the ability to establish goals in reading is called “metacognitive strategy” that will bring the reader to a second activity beside the comprehension that will conduce the formulation of hypotheses, it is a conscious process of the reader, “Estratégias de Processamento do Texto”(the text-processing strategies), which studies the contextual side that defines relationships and properties internal to the text, it is an inferential process of unconscious nature which serves to build local coherence about the text and cohesive relationships established between successive elements, or sequential, in the text; “Interação na Leitura de Textos” (Interaction in reading texts), which shows a mutual relationship between reader and author, it points to the need of
