Abstract Organizations are perceiving the importance of flexible computing systems in keeping track of an ever growing and changeable market. In this context, an important issue are the requirements gathered during the analysis phase of a software engineering process. As a whole, the acquisition and understanding of requirements are not a simple task as they may appear an abstract problem to customers. This work aims to present Business Rules as a means to help resolve the problem of requirements ill-definition, showing that these rules represent an important concept during the requirement acquisition process, as they make it easier to introduce changes in information systems and also provide the opportunity to business-oriented people to assess the performance of each process. Despite the fact that Business Rule is a recent topic, it has been used by some Information Technology people, although little research on the subject has been done.
