INTRODUCTION

She sings, she writes, she acts, she dances. She is inspiration, she is wiser, she is fierce, she is ours, she is Beyonce. She was so busy thinking about the next shoot, the next video, the next single, the next tour, and she couldn’t really reflect on the impact she was having on other human beings. Her idea of success has completely changed, whatever she does, it has to be something that’s going to teach her something about herself, teach something about life. By the age of five she knew exactly what she wanted to be: that’s to be there on the stage. She grew up watching tapes of Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and The Jackson. Michael as we all know, was such a huge inspiration for her. In fact, The Jackson 5 song, ‘’Where You Are’’, was the first song they ever performed. Destiny’s Child, they started out singing together when they were nine years old and they chose a Jackson 5 song to be the first song for their auditions to get their first record deal. It was 1990 in Houston, Texas. They were rocking their Cross Colours, they’d been practing their choreography. They were so nervous. This was their time. - Beyonce, did you go swimming last night? I can tell ‘cause I can hear all the snot in your nose. Her father stopped their audition. He told those record executives, exactly this: ‘’ I’m sorry y’all flew out here, but these girls are not ready.’’ And you know what, they were only nine, he was right.
