RESUMO

O presente artigo reflete sobre a educação superior brasileira e a necessidade de uma formação com competência crítica, reflexiva e emancipatória capaz de preparar o cidadão brasileiro para a construção de uma sociedade menos dominada e mais igualitária, menos passiva e mais ativa, menos subserviente e mais soberana. Só há transformação social quando a sociedade tem competência para indagar, agir e reagir diretamente sobre as necessárias transformações seja no nível histórico, econômico, social e individual. Nesse sentido, o papel da educação é um ato libertário e essencialmente político. Frente aos grandes desafios na construção de uma nova realidade que amenize o desnivelamento entre pobres e ricos em nosso país e a atuação na sociedade em defesa da ampliação e fortalecimento do cidadão, o ato educativo deve trabalhar como instrumento conscientizador, ou seja, como um ato político.

ABSTRACT
The present article has the objective of reflecting on the Brazilian higher education and the need of a critical, reflexive and emancipatory formation which is able to prepare the Brazilian citizen to build a more equalitarian and less controlled society, that would be less passive and more active and less subservient and with more sovereignty. The way to promote a social transformation only happens when the society is empowered to inquire and to act and to react directly towards the necessary changes either in the historical, economic, social and individual levels. In this sense the role of education is an essentially libertarian and political act.
